House Bill 333-CARE Act

Sponsor: Representative Stewart

Committee: Health

Projection: BAD

Synopsis: This bill would require all hospitals with emergency departments to provide emergency contraception to victims of sexual assault or “believed” to be victims of sexual assault.  The bill allows minors to be given emergency contraception without the knowledge or consent of a parent.  Hospitals refusing to comply would be subject to penalties of $10,000 per incident and court orders mandating such actions be taken.  The bill has been given sponsor, proponent and opponent testimonies, but has not been slated for further hearings as of this writing.
